Once you become interested in a plastic surgery procedure, deciding on a practice can be an exciting next step. However, searching for the best plastic surgery practice here in Toronto can be confusing. How do you know which credentials to look for? How can you be sure you’re choosing the most qualified team?
In this blog post, I’ll discuss a few criteria to help you select the right plastic surgery practice for you.
Royal College-Certified Plastic Surgeon
A Royal College-certified or board-certified plastic surgeon should oversee any plastic surgery practice you consider. These certification credentials represent extensive training and experience in the field of plastic surgery. Dedication to ongoing learning and the use of up-to-date surgical techniques are also important.
Your surgeon should also extend his or her focus on educating you as a patient. He or she should be committed to providing all the information you’ll need about your chosen procedure so you can feel prepared and empowered ahead of your surgery.
Accommodating Staff
When you visit a plastic surgery practice, your surgeon isn’t the only person you’ll interact with. You’ll meet with several other staff members who will help check you in, answer any questions, and prepare you for your procedure. Your chosen practice’s staff members should be dedicated to supporting you from start to finish. They should be accessible, accommodating, and have a focus on sharing any resources you’ll need to have a positive and rewarding plastic surgery experience.
At my practice, everyone on our staff prides themselves on providing patient-centered care. We’re always ready to answer questions and facilitate an open, honest discussion about your needs, concerns, and goals.
Certified Surgical Center or Hospital
Making sure your surgeon plans on performing your procedure in an accredited facility is critical. A trustworthy practice should have access to a hospital setting or a surgical center accredited by the Canadian Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (CAAASF).
Our patients have the option of having their surgery performed at our private, CAAASF-accredited Mississauga Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Clinic, or across the road at the Trillium Health Centre, where I served as division head of plastic surgery for more than 15 years.
Proven Plastic Surgery Results
As qualified and credentialed as a practice may be, little speaks as much about a surgeon’s success as his or her before-and-after photos. Looking through galleries of real patient results will tell you much of what you need to know about whether a surgeon’s abilities are aligned with your desired results. You can view examples of my results in our before-and-after photo gallery.
