Lip fillers seem to be on everyone’s mind these days. But not all lip augmentation results are the same. There is a fine line between full, sensuous lips and the overinflated, unnatural-looking results that may make you think twice about getting lip injections with dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®.
At my Toronto plastic surgery clinic, we’ve been seeing a steady increase in the number of women who want plumper lips, but are also worried about ending up with lips that look disproportionally large. The renewed popularity of lip enhancement ranges from patients in their 20s, who want to get the look of a Kylie Jenner, to women in their 40s and 50s, whose lips have become thinner with age.
Embracing the Natural Look
Like most other cosmetic procedures, the trend is decidedly away from “overdone” results to a look that’s natural above all. In an earlier blog post, I wrote about attending an international meeting that presented data proving that there is a significant decrease in the amount of product being used on dermal filler patients. As I wrote then, “Most of our patients look at celebrity cosmetic results in horror and specifically ask NOT to be over-injected when they arrive at the clinic.”
That’s why choosing the right injector is important. Some inexperienced injectors still believe in the “more is better” theory of fillers and use an excessive number of syringes to produce unsatisfactory results. My expertise using injectables has been honed for years, and I’ve trained other physicians in the use of fillers. Our goal is always results that bring out the best version of you.
Achieving Beautiful Results
Plastic surgeons today have much more control over the results produced by fillers, even compared to just a few years ago. Patients who travel from Oakville, Brampton, and other areas surrounding my Mississauga clinic for JUVÉDERM injections can even combine lip augmentation with a softening of the fine lines that can develop around the mouth. The versatility of JUVÉDERM creates a more dramatic result.
And the beauty of fillers is that patients can see those results immediately. I wouldn’t advise getting lip fillers hours before an important social event, but allowing 2 weeks for any bruising to resolve should be enough.
This 31-year-old patient wanted her lips to have a slightly pouty appearance. I used 1cc of JUVÉDERM to create the desired, natural-looking results.
